With the use of computers and the internet comes certain threats. If you are going to be active on the internet or in email or even if you will be only somewhat active when accessing email and the internet you should take steps to protect yourself. Two of the biggest threats right now are Virus’s and Identity/Account Theft. Below are a few simple steps you can take to protect yourself.
Have you ever gotten an email or been chatting with someone and come across what looks like a foreign language in front of you? Basically it is a foreign language. It’s Chat Speak or Chat Terminology. It is a completely separate form of communication created by chatters and gamers who didn’t want to type out whole words of commonly used phrases.
Recycle Bin = Trash can
Let’s say you have a banana peel and you take your banana peel and walk it over to your garbage can and drop it in. In 15 days are you going to walk back over to the garbage can and pick up your banana peel? I’m guessing the answer is NO. Okay, so I’m truly HOPING the answer is no, because that would be really disturbing. Many, many, many, computer users do those same steps with their recycle bin. Granted not with banana peels but you get the point.
WomenGamers.com features articles on women in gaming, how to break into the gaming industry, and gaming reviews. Gaming has been a stereotypical male activity, but studies have shown that over half of online gamers are women. This growing trend has changed the way we look at raising children. Gaming mothers face different challenges but in the same token have new and exciting opportunities.
Atari from WomenGamers.com talks about these challenges in her article “Gamer Mom to Be.”

This news is a couple months old, but somehow I missed it! Apparently, owning an Android-based phone will not only give you access to thousands of awesome apps, but your own personal portable internet router!
A friend of mine told me she heard this was coming soon and wanted me to check into it.
With ‘Froyo,’ Google’s code word for Android 2.2, you will be able to make your phone a portable Wi-Fi hotspot. So, anywhere you have phone service, you will have Internet! Your laptop will see your phone as a wireless network, and connect right up. This has been available with the PalmOS phones for additional cost. Its not sure if there will be a cost associated with the tethering, but I’m hoping they keep it free!
This is very exciting, and sets the stage for your phone to really be like a mini-robot. I always joke that my Android phone is my very own personal R2D2…and it definitely is just as handy as the Star Wars version. . . light-saber app & all!
